The Swan River Lions Club was chartered in 1960 and now has 37 active members
Here is a list of some of their fund
raising events throughout the year. ![]()
Every March.funds raised go to the Swan
Valley Medical Assistance Fund. Donations are made to local residents who
require financial assistance for medical related expenses. The derby is open
to everyone and each year we have about 400 fishers - there is an adult and
a junior division( under 13 years of age). We raise about $10,000.00 each
year for the fund.
This project involves all of the Lions Clubs in the Valley - Minitonas,Birch
River,Bowsman and Swan River.
Major prizes include;boat and motor,canoes,powered ice augers,BBQ's,trowlling
motors, fishing equipment, etc. We also run a 50/50 "GHOST FISHERS"
raffle wherebye the winners have three chances to win- 25%,15% and 10% of
the pot -usually around $6000.00
In addition there is the very popular "Chinese Auction"($1 tickets)
on various outdoor prizes,e.g. life jackets, thermoses etc.
.Always sold out quickly and raises approximately $2500.00 for the Club each year.
Funds go to requests for assistance from various sources
and for various needs.
The recycling of old batteries. We ship about three
loads a year and raise approximately $16,000. Another project involving all
4 valley clubs. Our share amounts to about $6000.00 a year.
